VALLECITO LAKE OUTFITTERS
is a family owned and operated business located on the north end of Vallecito Lake, 25 miles NE of Durango and 17 miles north of Bayfield, Colorado. We are in GMU #751 but can do game packing in GMU 75 & 77. We are extremely service orientated and while we primarily only hunt elk and mule deer, this area is home to numerous other big game species including moose, black bear, big horn sheep and goats. This was also part of the area used to re-introduce the lynx. We offer only NON – GUIDED CAMPS and DROP TRIPS FOR Archery, muzzle loading and rifle season. Sorry, we do not provide services for the 4th season hunts
These are tent camps located on the San Juan National Forest adjacent to the Weminuche Wilderness. Primary hunting area is west of Vallecito Lake, near Miller Mtn.. Over the years, this area has had a high success ratio for both mule deer and elk. Our camps sit at altitudes from 9,500 ft to ll,200 ft elevation. These hunts are for one day in, 5 days of hunting and one day out and includes game packing. Game processing is extra. We can arrange to pick you up at the airport ,motel or cabin accommodations. In our camps, we strive to have the best equipment and gentle well broke mountain horses. We can make your hunt more enjoyable and tailor the hunt for you. We will be glad to supply a list of camp needs and suggest equipment and rifle calibers. We attempt to limit our riders to 220 lbs. The dead line for draw on deer and elk is generally the 1st Tuesday in April. You will need to contact me as soon as possible for available dates and bookings. We expect a ¼ deposit at time of booking and balance due at the beginning of the hunt.

CUSTOM CAMPS AND DROP CAMP TRIPS

We offer a non-guided camp set-up upon your arrival to include - wall tent, sleeping cots, heating stove, cooking stove, complete kitchen and utensils, ax, shovel, lanterns and latrine. Some firewood will be cut. You need to supply your own food, clothes, rifle, bedroll, and license. We pack you in to our camp one to two days before the season, allow you five (5) days of hunting and pack you out. Cost includes checking the camp regularly and packing of one game animal per hunter. Limit 4 hunters per camp. Check with us for list of needed equipment. We DO NOT leave any horses in camp. These camps are intended for 2 to 4 hunters. We ask that you limit your personal duffle to 75lbs. per man.
The second type of drop camp is where you supply all of your own equipment and we only supply the riding and pack animals. We generally will take you up Vallecito Creek, Middle Mountain, Miller Mountain, the Pine River (Los Pinos) and Beaver Meadows.
You select a camp area or we can make suggestions. We cannot locate you over 10 miles from any of the major trailheads. We limit each pack animal to 150 lbs. We also ask that you pack your equipment in bags that will fit in our panniers and on our horses. Smaller bags are easier to arrange. We do not leave horses in camp but will check the camp for game and pack it out at an additional charge. This option is based on total number riding and packhorses used and the packer/wrangler per day.
