No trip to Durango or Southwest Colorado would be complete without experiencing the rugged beauty of the Weminuche Wilderness. Vallecito Lake Outfitters is a family owned and operated business that provides a safe and reliable opportunity to enjoy the back country of the San Juans.
Operating 25 miles northeast of Durango, Colorado at Vallecito Lake, we offer a wide variety of horseback activities for all skill levels. Throughout the summer months we take half and all day rides near the lake, as well as drop and pack trips into the wilderness area. Starting in August we shift more towards hunting season and offer a few different options to best fit the needs of our clients.
Vallecito Lake Outfitters is owned and operated by Doug and Shela Carron. Doug grew up in Bayfield and spent the majority of his childhood summers camping and packing with his father in the Weminuche wilderness. After graduating he worked for an outfitter as a wrangler, packer and guide in the same areas of the wilderness he is permitted to use today.
